Sinusitis
Sinusitis refers to infection of the sinuses. This is usually a more serious condition which often needs surgical treatment, especially if it does not respond to medication or if it becomes a re-occurring or persistent problem.
We have four sets of sinuses: maxillary, ethmoidal, frontal and sphenoidal. They all drain through small openings and passages to the nasal cavity. When these openings are too small or when certain other anatomical abnormalities are present, sinusitis tends to become persistent.
Whenever sinusitis does not respond to medical treatment, surgical drainage is required. This is achieved through a FESS, or Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery procedure, which is a very delicate and refined procedure giving excellent and lasting results.
