Our lives exist of various journeys and roads of exploration. My ongoing sinusitis journey can hopefully help you along your road to better understanding and management of your disease. Let's look at your basic road:
Every journey begins with a first step
"doctor, I have sinus"
This may come as a shocker, but there is, in fact, no disease such as “sinus”.
A sinus is part of an intricate set of air-filled cavities in the skull, connected to the nasal airway by small openings. What you really are suffering from, may be either RHINITIS or SINUSITIS. Or both!
To distinguish between the two, you will need to discuss the detail with an ENT who has a good understanding of the subtle differences and who can do a good physical examination of your nose and throat. In all likelihood you will also need to undergo a CT scan of the sinuses, which can be arranged by your ENT specialist.

If you want to reach your destination safely, you have to use the right map. The more detail you have on your map, the better your chances to reach the right destination!
In your sinus-journey a CT scan of the sinuses is the map which we will use to plan your journey.

Are you going to need medication? Or lifestyle changes? Will any surgery need to be done?
In general rhinitis will require medication, perhaps with changes in habits or environment, while sinusitis may require surgery. Your condition may require either of these...or perhaps both!

My road with sinusitis...
David Donde, founder of Truth Coffee, once said: "The more I learn about coffee, the more I realize how much I have to learn". Which is exactly what I can say about sinusitis and its treatment!
Although sinusitis and sinus surgery (FESS) was a big interest since the onset of my career in 1985, my dedicated road really took off only in 2017 following an advanced course in the anatomy and surgery of the sinuses.
